Owner Oiled ("the App") is built by Richard Scafidi. This policy explains how the App handles your data.
The Short Version
Owner Oiled does not collect, transmit, or sell your personal data. Everything stays on your device.
Data Storage
All data you enter into the App — including vehicles, maintenance logs, reminders, warranties, and attachments — is stored locally on your device. On desktop, data is kept in a SQLite database in your operating system's application data directory. On the web, data is stored in your browser's IndexedDB.
No data is synced to any cloud service, remote server, or third party.
Data Collection
The App does not collect:
- Personal information (name, email, phone number)
- Location data
- Usage analytics or telemetry
- Crash reports
- Advertising identifiers
- Cookies or tracking pixels
Third-Party Services
NHTSA Recall API
The App connects to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) public API to check for open vehicle recalls. This request sends only your vehicle's make, model, and model year — no personally identifiable information is transmitted. The NHTSA API is a free public service operated by the U.S. government. Their privacy policy is available at nhtsa.gov/privacy-policy.
OCR Processing
Receipt scanning and OCR processing are performed entirely on your device using local libraries. No images or text are sent to any external service.
Data Export & Backup
The App provides export and backup functionality. Exported files are saved to a location you choose on your device. You are responsible for the security of exported files.
Children's Privacy
The App does not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published on this page with a revised date. Since the App collects no data, changes are unlikely.
